Let us introduce you to… Mike van den Berg! Having grown and developed himself thoroughly over time at The Hospitalitist, we passed the mic to Mike (phase 3 Talent) to reflect on his journey and share his vision on the times ahead. A great piece of insight from one of our most experienced and successful Talents!
Q1. How connected do you feel to The Hospitalitist’s company values?
One way or another, every talent at The Hospitalitist is focused on being adaptable, providing the best service they can, whilst showing the brightest smile they have; these company values are what make any employee a perfect team-member. That’s why I like the newest addition to The Hospitalitist’s DNA: “creating awesome interaction”, it shows who we are and how we roll. With this common goal in mind, everyone adds value in their own way generated by their own personality, whilst delivering high quality experiences at all times.
Q2. Evaluation of self-development, what have you learned from start to phase 3?
The most distinctive area of self-development I have been through is definitely leadership. Not only the progress through the phases proved to be helpful, but especially my time in the earlier phases. Here you obtain a great allround foundation by working at many different partners (luxurious hotels, cool restaurants, exclusive caterers and awesome event locations) and learn to lead others step-by-step. Before I joined the team, I had always worked for the same manager, so working for different partners showed me what proper leadership can do for a team, especially in terms of motivating others.
Q3. How will this help you in your future career?
As I am currently in my last year of Hotelschool The Hague, focusing on a management position, the development I have been through in leadership showed me points of improvement for myself, but even more the strengths I have. By knowing these, I can position myself better in the paths I will take in my future career.
Q4. Recommendation for future talents considering joining The Hospitalitist.
Sometimes people in the wrong working environment can slow you down in terms of development. You are responsible for where you go and what you achieve; so join a company, like The Hospitalitist, that supports you in any way they can, that is super flexible, is therefore the perfect combination with your study and finally gets you in touch with amazing people. Never slow down and become who you want to be!
